5 Ways To Detox Your Skin

Detox Your Skin

An ever-growing New Year tradition is to detox the body after the holidays. Many people do this to help jump start weight loss or “reset” the body after weeks of eating, drinking and other merriment. But, the benefits of detoxing are not just beneficial for your body and mind; they are also fantastic for your skin! Just as important as it is to be cautious about what you put inside your body, it is also important to be mindful of releasing the body’s toxins. Not only does detoxing cleanse your skin, but it also rebuilds and maintains the health of it overall. Here are five ways to detoxify your skin and keep it looking fresher than ever!

1.  Drink Up.
Drinking lots of water is key to cleansing your skin. It is one of the easiest and most impactful ways to increase skin hydration and flush out any toxins. According to scientific research, everyone should drink on average about three litres of water each day. For an extra boost, add a few drops of liquid chlorophyll to your water. It will help improve the efficiency of oxygen transportation in your body, making it feel and look more refreshed.

2. You Are What You Eat.
Watching what you eat is another easy way to detox your skin. Avoiding foods that tend to congest the skin – such as spicy foods, alcohol, caffeine and refined sugar – is one way that you avoid toxic build up in your body. This doesn’t mean that you can’t indulge in your favourite junk foods every now and then; just be sure to make the effort to be cautious about what you are putting into your body regularly. We like the 80/20 rule.

3. Pack in Powerful Probiotics.
Including probiotics into your diet has been proven to detox inside and out. Probiotics offer the body regular bowel movements and help support a strong immune system. These key elements play a major role in toxin-free skin. Some foods that include probiotics are yogurt, soy milk, milk, dark chocolate, pickles and olives.

4. Beautify the Bath.
By adding a few ingredients to your bath water, you can detoxify your skin and draw out dirt from your pores. To help destroy toxins, organisms and residue left by soap, add two cups of Epsom salts and ¼ cup baking soda to your bath. Besides the detoxifying benefits, this combination will help to soothe irritated skin and boost magnesium levels. Turn up the benefits even more by sprinkling your favourite essential oil in a well – and light some candles for added relaxation and atmosphere.

5. Sweat it Out.
Exercising at least 30 minutes each day is a great way to maintain healthy skin and a healthy body. Sweating out your toxins is another easy way to ensure natural cleansing of the skin. Exercise has also been proven to relieve stress, which can also, in turn, help improve skin. Just remember to wash your face after exercise with a gentle cleanser that removes dirt and oil from skin, while maintaining skin’s delicate pH.

Start fresh today with clear, beautiful skin you can feel proud of!

Autumn is the Perfect Time to Peel

As the cooler weather starts to move its way in, your skin starts to really feel it. Cold weather can affect the skin in many ways, from dry and sallow skin, to more bouts of acne. Anyone with any form of sensitive or problem skin knows the woes that come with the season change, and just changing up your at-home skincare routine won’t cut it.

c700x420

If you want to improve your skin and any signs of ageing that have come from time in the summer sun, autumn is the perfect time to peel.

The autumn and winter seasons are great times to opt for treatments that can help improve your complexion. With time having passed since you were last hit by the powerful sun’s rays, and months before you will be out in the sun again, your skin is more protected from the difficulties that can occur from too much exposure while your skin is in recovery mode, and healing from your latest peel.

Depending on what Image peel you choose, our powerful peel treatments can address skin concerns ranging from pigment changes and sun damage to extensive wrinkles or lesions. Fine lines and wrinkles can become prominent in the cooler months due to the dry air, so this may be the solution for you!

What is a peel? A chemical peel is a treatment where the skin is cleared and treated with a solution, intended to encourage the growth of new skin over the place of older skin over a period of time. Over the following days, skin will peel and begin the process of creating new layers to replace those that have been destroyed. Skin must be cared for during recovery to ensure proper healing.

Since there are lower UV levels during the colder seasons, it is optimal for recovery. You can indulge your complexion with radical regeneration without risking your beautiful skin, allowing you to enhance the texture, clarity and overall appearance of your skin.

What do peels do to help your skin?

  • Rejuvenate and anti-age
  • Regenerates, hydrates and improves overall look of skin
  • Brightens the complexion
  • Increases the elasticity of the skin
  • Smooths wrinkles
  • Unifies uneven pigmentation and hyperpigmentation
  • Softens rough, uneven skin
  • Eliminates minor acne scars and improves condition of acne-prone skin
  • Reduces the size of pores

Autumn is the perfect time to resurface your skin back to beautiful. Find your local Image stockist to book in a peel.

THE Quick Beauty Fix: The Rising Popularity of Sheet Masks

The biggest trend to hit the beauty industry is clearly and overwhelmingly K-Beauty, or Korean Beauty, where the nation’s trends of everyday beauty routines are only just hitting our shores to be utilised by anyone from local salons to big beauty brands in the trade.

115dd89619e592c5181927d094edde4b

While most of our bathroom cabinets are likely full to the brim with a mixture of our classic staple beauty bits and skincare fads with exotic ingredients and a host of scents, nothing can compare to the beauty standards held in South Korea. While their well-known 15 step everyday skincare regime (cleanse, tone, moisturise, the list goes on) might be out of our achievable reach, there is some aspects of this routine that we can, and willingly, get on board with…

Now we know from these incredible Asian beauty care trends, your daily beauty routine is really not complete without the use of a sheet mask. This trend is seemingly perfect for a quick fix for every beauty need, with formulas being made for specific skin issues, from dry to ageing to sensitive skin.

If you need any more persuading of the rising popularity of sheet masks in your skincare routine, revisit the beauty invasion of BB Creams. 5 years ago this niche product was hardly heard of, but now this has become a true staple in everyone’s makeup arsenal, globally.

Sheet masks are now being produced globally, including Image’s new collection I MASK, which launches two new intense biomolecular sheet masks into the line for that needed hit of hydration.

Sheet masks are simply facial fabric sheets, as the name explains, infused with a serum or gel like product that is placed directly onto the face to soak for 10-20 minutes, in order to maximise the product’s penetration and results. The fabric locks in the treatment to ensure the most effective delivery of ingredients and in under 20 minutes, you are able to see physical results like improved tone, firmness and hydration. It is perfect to use in your everyday routine at home, and an ideal addition to services in salon, such as LED treatment or facials.

The best benefit from sheet masks is the instant hydration hit you receive. Sheet masks bring back the hydration we naturally lose daily, immediately. With ingredients like strong peptides and antioxidants, as well as brightening botanicals, sheet masks are guaranteed to leave your skin plump, dewy and glowing.

Here’s why we love them:

  • Each mask gives you the correct application dosage – Forget the days when you over or under-applied your face mask, with sheet masks each package has the exact dosage of hydration your skin needs without the worry
  • There’s a formula for every skin concern – Each sheet masks comes in different formulas to combat multiple skin concerns, including dull, dry and ageing skin
  • A-listers swear by them – If you didn’t trust the hundreds of incredible beauty trends that have come out of South Korea, just trust what Hollywood’s biggest celebs are doing. From supermodels like Chrissy Teigen and Karolina Kurkova, to Lady Gaga and Lena Dunham, sheet masks are officially the perfect treatment for all skin types and concerns

Image Skincare’s latest product launches included their new range, I MASK, which launched two new sheet mask formulas, designed to give your skin the ultimate hydration boost and skin rejuvenation at its most intense. With breakthrough hydrogel technology that stands above previous sheet mask formulations like biocellulose masks to deliver the patented biomolecular hydrogel mask, Image’s I MASK range will wow and impress.

I MASK Biomolecular Anti-aging Radiance Mask
Anti-aging sheet mask infuses skin with a unique fusion of volcanic water, brightening botanicals, peptides and antioxidants for the ultimate youthful appearance and radiance.

I MASK Biomolecular Hydrating Radiance Mask
Derived from red algae and carob tree, this revolutionary soothing hydrogel mask was developed to increase delivery of active ingredients to lift, brighten and deeply hydrate skin after a single application.

Taking the Plunge with the MAX Stem Cell Neck Lift

the-max-stem-cell-neck-lift

Many factors are at play when it comes to an aging neck. Our necks aren’t made up of the same fatty issue that we find in the face, leaving the skin there drier, more delicate and less elastic. This means that as we age it has a far greater potential for wrinkles, sagging and creping than our faces. It’s also a greater risk for UV damage because it has fewer melanocytes – the cells that make the pigment that protects our skin from sun damage – so it’s at risk of becoming mottled with uneven colour and brown spots. Don’t panic just yet.

neck-1024x652

The most innovative skincare brand in the industry is here to help with yet another scientifically advanced formula with clinically proven results. By selecting the right products and applying them carefully you can “Age Later” both on your face and your neck. So go ahead, keep your secrets.

3 easy ways to take care of your neck:

Perfect posture. Not only will it stave off lower back issues in the future and make you look slimmer, keeping your neck long will help combat those pesky horizontal lunes and dreaded “turkey neck”.

the-max-stem-cell-neck-liftDream a little dream… of youthful neck and jawline. Try sleeping on your back on just one silk pillowcase to ensure your neck isn’t stretched or folded while you sleep. Bonus; you will love the way your hair looks when you wake up in the morning. Sleeping on a silk pillowcase causes less friction for your hair, too. Get ready for a good hair day, every day.

Did you know you can work out the muscles in your neck? There are tons of ways to tighten the neck and jawline – from plastic devices you pop in your mouth to treatments that send electrical impulses to your neck muscles forcing them to contract.

APPLY the MAX Stem Cell Neck Lift as part of your every day skincare regimen both morning and evenings. The latest addition to the MAX STEM CELL COLLECTION contains the MAXimum concentration of innovative peptides combined with plant derived stem cell technology that’s clinically proven to increase elasticity, brighten, tighten and define the neck and jawline.

EXFOLIATE your neck and chest once per week with a gentle exfoliating product. We love our ILUMA Intense Brightening Exfoliating Powder. It’s gentle yet effective formula not only sloughs away dead skin cells to allow serums and moisturizers to penetrate deeper into the skin, but it packs some seriously advanced ingredients to reduce pigmentation and boost skin’s radiance.

SMOOTH on a Vitamin C-rich serum that least three times per week. But beware! Not all Vitamin C Hydrating Anti-Aging Serum contain a Botox-like peptide that’s clinically proved to reduce wrinkle depth, it’s also formulated with an oil-soluble version of the citrus king that penetrates deeper into the skin and is far more effective than its water-soluble counterpart.

RAMP UP your SPF game. Your neck gets saggy as collagen and elastin fibres within weaken. You can delay the droop with a dedicated daily application of a broad-spectrum sunscreen like any one of the versions found in our PREVENTION + COLLECTION.

NEVER underestimate the power of makeup. A good primer will blur winkles for the appearance of a smooth neck. Try out new I Prime Flawless Blur Gel combined with the I Conceal Flawless foundation of your choice for a beautiful blurred, perfectly polished appearance.

6 Dangerous Sunscreen Mistakes

@daniellebaum

With skin cancer on the rise here in Australia, it’s more important than ever to get smart when it comes to sunscreen. Protect yourself by checking out these common mistakes that you may be making with your sunscreen.

prevention-daily-hydrating-moisturizer prevention-daily-matte-moisturizer prevention-daily-tinted-moisturizer

  1. I don’t need to sunscreen because I need the Vitamin D. It’s true. Vitamin D is essential as it absorbs calcium and promotes bone growth. But you can get a sufficient amount of Vitamin D by spending only 10-15 minutes in the sun. It’s not worth foregoing sunscreen, as most people don’t apply enough to prevent the production of Vitamin D anyway.
  2. One application lasts an entire day. One application in the morning isn’t going to last you throughout the entire day. If you are swimming, playing sports, or spending the day out in the sun, then your sunscreen should be reapplied approximately every two hours.
  3. I don’t need the sunscreen because I have dark skin. While people with more pigment in their skin do have a lower risk of getting cancer, they are not completely immune. As a matter of fact, skin cancer can be even more dangerous for those with darker skin as it’s often diagnosed in the later stages.
  4. A base tan protects me. A tan is your body’s reaction to UV exposure. It’s a sign that damage has already been done, and this does not protect your skin from further damage.
  5. I only need to protect my face. Many people only apply sunscreen to their face in order to protect it from premature aging. While this is a good habit, the truth is that you can develop skin cancer anywhere the sun touches. Don’t forget your neck, hands, legs and feet not only for the sake of protecting your skin from cancer, but protecting those areas from premature aging as well.
  6. I’ll be inside all day. While windows do block more intense UV rays, it still allows enough rays to pass through to cause damage. You can easily swap your everyday moisturizer with the PREVENTION+ Daily Hydrating Moisturizer that has an SPF of 30.

Fun in the sun beach bag essentials:

  1. Keeping your hat in your bag is a cardinal rule when it comes to the subject of sun protection. It can protect your scalp ad cut down on the rays that are hitting on your face and neck.
  2. When it comes to any outdoor trip, sunglasses are an obvious requirement. While protecting your eyes from the sun so you can safely explore those summer horizons. They also provide sun protection for delicate eye area and prevents squinting… which can lead to wrinkles.14723556_351649061843501_2953693591219732480_n
  3. Lip balm. Keep your pout hydrated and beach-ready with IMAGE Skincare’s ORMEDIC Balancing Lip Enhancement Complex.
  4. Beach towel. This handy item provides a safe haven to rest your rump and it doubles as a cover-up if you feel like you having too much sin with your fun.

5 ACNE Myths

We have all heard them and some of us might still believe in them Let us clear the air in regards to acne myths once and for all.

Clear Cell medicated acne lotion clear-cell-mattifying-moisturizer clear-cell-restoring-serumClear cell salicylic gel cleanser

MYTH 1

Acne is something that only happens to teenagers. Teens definitely do suffer from acne, but some people develop acne for the first time in their 20s and 30s. In fact, in Manhattan’s business district, most patients treated for acne vulgaris are women between the ages of 20 and 45.

MYTH 2

Acne occurs because your face is dirty. Many people feel like acne means their face is somehow unclean – but that’s just not true. The truth is, acne is a complex skin disorder that can’t be boiled down to simply “dirt”. It’s likely that the connection between the skin condition and the dirt was made because blackheads are, well, black – but blackheads aren’t caused by dirt either.1c0e308efb4256c2013860c213c88140

MYTH 3

To relieve acne, scrub your face really hard. Remember, acne isn’t caused by dirt – so you can’t just wash it away. A cleanser with ingredients like benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid and sulphur compounds will help clear the skin, but it won’t cleat it any faster if you scrub harder. Scrubbing acne too hard can actually inflame blackheads, so be sure to be nice to your skin.

Myth 4

Popping your pimples makes everything better. Will people please stop picking at their faces! Popping pimples spills inflammatory gunk into surrounding tissues, which can cause scarring.

Myth 5

Tanning in the sun will help clear acne. Tanning does help hide acne, but the UV rays ultimately dry the skin, and can make the skin condition worse. And do we really need to remind you that tanning causes premature aging, not to mention skin cancer?

Collagen: Is It Really So Important?

Collagen is the most abundant structural protein in our connective tissue, making up 75% of our skin. It supports the appearance of smooth youthful skin and also provides structure and strength for our bones, muscles and tendons. Collagen, keratin and elastin give the skin its strength, elasticity and structure.

The body naturally produces the collagen that it needs, but this production gradually disrupts as part of the natural aging process. Women produce less collagen than men, and this collagen is lost at a rate of about 1% per year. This means that a woman has lost almost half of the collimagemodel-77122agen from her skin by the age of 50.

Collagen is also greatly affected by environmental stresses such as sun exposure, nutrition, skin damage, and exposure to toxins such as pollutions, cigarette smoke and recreational drugs. With decreased collagen, the skin loses its natural elasticity and firmness, and fine lines, wrinkles and sagging appear.

What is collagen?

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body, supporting the cohesion, elasticity and regeneration of the skin. The predominate form of collagen in the skin is type 1 representing about 80%, supporting skin strength, while 20% is type 3 collagen which maintains elasticity. The most common amino acid includes glycine, proline, hydroxyproline and arginine. They supply nutrition to nourish the skin, hair and nails and are essential to maintaining collagen at healthy levels.

What are peptides?

Peptides also play an important role in maintaining healthy collagen levels I the skin. Amino acids form chains of proteins called peptides, these chains form both long and short strands each offering a specific and powerful anti-aging benefit helping to stimulate natural collagen production. Maintaining the amount of collagen is the key to beautiful skin, unfortunately as we age the production of collagen begins to slow down and cell structures begin to lose their strength. As a result, the skin becomes fragile, less elastic and wrinkles begin to form, this is when supplemental forms of collagen should be added to daily regimens.therapy2-300x169

What is hydrolyzed collagen?

Supplementing collagen to the skin is best achieved in a specific form called hydrolyzed collagen which is comprised of small amino acids, also referred to as collagen peptides which are absorbed quickly by the body and stimulate the body’s own natural production of collagen. In clinical studies this bioavailable form of collagen has been shown to significantly reduce wrinkle volume, increase elasticity and skin hydration levels. Due to the absorption ability of hydrolyzed collagen, significant increases in fibroblast leading to increase density of the skin have also been demonstrated.

How do ceramides contribute?

Like collagen, ceramides are also a major component of the skin. Ceramides protect against moisture loss and promote a youthful and supple appearance. Ceramides also support the skins matrix contributing to firmness and hydration. A potent plant based extract derived from wheat seed is a natural and gluten free ceramide which has been shown to be very effective in replenishing skin hydration, essential to the moisture barrier.

IMAGE Skincare is now launching YANA Daily Collagen Shots to Australia. A revolutionary new way to rejuvenate your skin from within.
